Recommended Lighting Fixtures For Hilton Head Island, Bluffton, Beaufort, and SC Coastal Regions

Michael Murphy, (Revised October, 2018)

Exterior lighting installation experts highly recommend using durable materials that last through years of exposure to subtropical climate and sea air, such as the conditions of Hilton Head Island, Bluffton, Beaufort, and the surrounding coastal communities.  Coastal weather can severely corrode and damage materials used for landscape lighting.  The following is one of the products used by Murphy Outdoor Lighting, but there are many others which are also excellent choices.  The aim of this article is to provide examples of what to look for in a dependable fixture.

Outdoor lighting materials for Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, and any Coastal Region (including Bluffton, Beaufort, etc.), should be sourced as corrosion-resistant, such as copper, brass, stainless steel, or bronze.  Also, fixtures should be proven in the field for reliable seals under harsh climates.  But there is more to it than material selection (brass or copper, etc.); fixture design and functionality for aiming and shielding are needed to control lighting effects and to provide elimination of glare at the light source.  Also, of great value, is working with manufacturers that have been in the business for several years, which back up their warranties, and provide excellent product support while and communicating directly with installers.  Ultimately, it is important to find manufacturers that maintain close monitoring and quality control of their products, and respond to the needs of installation professionals.
